Organized Wisdom
|
For entire Mashable.com article click here... OrganizedWisdom Health has also created WisdomCards, which are specialized search result pages for specific topics. Currently there are about 100 WisdomCards for the most-searched health-related topics, and OrganizedWisdom is looking to launch another 100,000 in the next year. As a user, you can send or get the link for a WisdomCard, as well as add it to your watch list or suggest a link to be included on the card. There are other social aspects included in OrganizedWisdom Health, including discussion boards. Changes over time will be emphasized with bolded font. I’d love to see embed options for these WisdomCards as well. The Mahalo approach that OrganizedWisdom is taking for its niche search is a welcome change specifically for health. Most search engines, even those that are health-related, can lead you on a wild goose chase, providing links with irrelevant data and leaving you to decipher what’s credible and what’s not. Other recent developments in the olnine health sector include the launching of hopecube, and Kosmix’s health vertical. ![]() Recommended: Piczo Layouts at Mashcodes! |

WordHugger Is Looking for Micro-Investors. Just Buy a Keyword. Posted: 16 Sep 2007 08:23 PM CDT WordHugger is a newly launched website that’s essentially looking to build a secondary web in an auction-like format. The purpose of WordHugger is to enable micro-investing on your part, giving you a piece of Internet real estate in exchange. Choose a keyword (or keywords) and earn money based off the advertising revenue from Google ads and other ads you sell for your WordHugger page. With this Internet real estate (a website at WordHugger), you can promote any content you’d like. The more resources you offer, the better the SEO for WordHugger and yourself, and the more money you can earn. Your site is customizable for your uses, whether that be to earn ad-rev or direct traffic to your own site. So for $60 you can own a keyword or keywords at WordHugger for 10 years. Launched by 17 year-old Colin LaHay, 50% of his personal profits from the site will be donated towards Kiva , the micro-lending site (the rest goes to his college fund). As with Weblo, you can sell any keywords you’d like, which is in essence selling your property. So far, WordHugger has sold 6 keywords, and none of the sites have yet been filled with much content. It’s clear that WordHugger will need some pretty effective SEO, which is something LaHay says he’s experienced in. Oddly enough, there’s no search options included in the WordHugger site itself. ![]() Recommended: Piczo Stuff at Mashcodes! |

Comcast Acquires TV Community BuddyTV Posted: 16 Sep 2007 06:36 PM CDT BuddyTV, the community that’s founded around pop culture television, is being acquired by Comcast. The cable network provider plans to incorporate BuddyTV into its recently launched Fancast website, and Fandango. Both are services that revolve around finding programming and purchasing movie tickets online. BuddyTV’s community should be a welcome addition to Comcast’s growing collection of online resources, especially as the Fancast could stand to benefit from a more involved community of users. The company has reported that it’s seen a good amount of growth in the past few months, growing to 3 million unique visitors on a monthly basis, and has expanded to accommodate 20 employees. BuddyTV also received a $2.8 million investment infusion last July. [via paidcontent] Recommended: Hi5 Stuff at Mashcodes! |

Bill Maher Slams Google, Yahoo & iPhone Buyers Posted: 16 Sep 2007 07:39 AM CDT
Bill Maher went for a web-centric New Rules segment on Friday, slamming Yahoo, Google, Bebo, iPhone buyers, 9/11 conspiracy theorists and “lactivists”. The Vanessa Hudgens scandal even gets a mention. On the Yahoo ad deal: “This week, Yahoo announced a deal with Bebo that will help it compete with Google. I had to wiki Bebo to find out it’s kind of like Friendster and Woofie. Gosh, I hope they can all band together to save Fuzzelton village from the evil Snords. Grow up. If I want to see uncaring, money-making machines with cutesy names, I go to a strip club.” On the iPhone price cut: “Stop b*tching that Apple cut the price on the iPhone. Early adopters always pay a premium. “Early adopters” being a business term meaning dipsh*ts who stand in line for 6 hours for a freaking phone. It’s not a price cut, it’s a repeal on the nerd tax.” Recommended: Hi5 Layouts at Mashcodes! |
